This year, crews ran into average to below average snowpack and a heavy spring snowstorm in late May.įor more information about Rocky Mountain National Park visit or call the park’s Information Office at (970) 586-1206. Spring storms often impact plowing activities. The visitor center is the highest in the National Park Service, sitting at 11,796 feet above sea level. Crews from the west side of the park and crews from the east side of the park move along the road and eventually meet at the Alpine Visitor Center. National Park Service plow operators began clearing the snow in the middle of April. Trail Ridge Road officially closed for the season last year on October 25. Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States, climbs to 12,183 feet and connects the towns of Estes Park and Grand Lake. The earliest the road has opened was on the latest June 26, 1943. Trail Ridge Road historically opens on Memorial Day weekend last year the road opened on May 28. Permits issued using the reservation system will allow park visitors to enter the park within two-hour windows of availability. The reservation system will apply to all areas of the park. The second permit is for the rest of Rocky Mountain National Park, excluding the Bear Lake Road corridor, and includes Trail Ridge Road. One permit is for the Bear Lake Road Corridor, which includes the entire corridor and access to the rest of the park. There are two types of reservations available. The park has piloted various visitor use management strategies since 2016, including first-come, first-served as well as different park wide Timed Entry Permit Reservation systems in 2020, 2021 and again in 2022. Visitor crowding and congestion have led to increased negative impacts to visitor and staff safety, resource protection, visitor experience and operational capacity. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the busiest national parks in the country, with over 4.4 million visitors in 2021. Rocky Mountain National Park is implementing a pilot timed entry permit reservation system which began today, May 27. Timed Entry Permit Reservations Effective Today, May 27 Trail Ridge Store will likely be opening later in the week. Park staff will update the recorded line when/if the road status changes.Īlpine Visitor Center is tentatively scheduled to open Saturday, May 28. However, because weather conditions may change rapidly, and winter weather is forecast for higher elevations this holiday weekend, including freezing temperatures and some snow accumulation, park visitors should be prepared to adjust travel plans accordingly and are encouraged to call the park’s Trail Ridge Road recorded status phone line at (970) 586-1222. At this time, night-time closures will not be implemented. Due to melting snow on the road and the potential for freezing temperatures visitors should be prepared for icy conditions. This afternoon, Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park opened for the season. Contact: Kyle Patterson, Public Affairs OfficerĬontact: Park Information Office, (970) 586-1206 Fish and chips became a stock meal among the working classes in England as a consequence of the rapid development of trawl fishing in the North Sea, and the development of railways which connected the ports to major industrial cities during the second half of the 19th century, so that fresh fish could be rapidly transported to the heavily populated areas. However, fried fish and chips had existed separately for at least 50 years prior to this, so the possibility that they had been combined at an earlier time cannot be ruled out. The earliest known shops were opened in London during the 1860s by Eastern European Jewish immigrant Joseph Malin, and by John Lees in Mossley, Lancashire. The location of the first fish and chip shop is unclear. Charles Dickens mentions "fried fish warehouses" in Oliver Twist (1838), and in 1845 Alexis Soyer in his first edition of A Shilling Cookery for the People, gives a recipe for "fried fish, Jewish fashion", which is dipped in a batter mix of flour and water before frying. Fish fried for Shabbat for dinner on Friday evenings could be eaten cold the following afternoon for shalosh seudot, palatable this way as liquid vegetable oil was used rather than a hard fat, such as butter. They prepared fried fish in a manner similar to pescado frito, which is coated in flour then fried in oil. The British tradition of eating fish battered and fried in oil was introduced to the country by Spanish and Portuguese Jewish immigrants, who spent time in the Netherlands before settling in the UK as early as the 16th century. Shake off any excess fat and season with salt before serving with the crispy fish.Main article: English cuisine Fish and chips, served in a paper wrapper ( greaseproof paper inner and ordinary paper outer), as a "takeaway" Once the fish is cooked, return the chips to the fryer and cook for 2-3 minutes or until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan, drain and sit on a baking sheet lined with greaseproof paper, then keep warm in the oven while you cook the remaining 2 fillets in the same way. Carefully place in the hot fat and cook for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy. Season with salt and thickly coat 2 of the fillets with the batter. It should be the consistency of very thick double cream and should coat the back of a wooden spoon. To make the batter, sift the flour and a pinch of salt into a large bowl and whisk in the lager to give a thick batter, adding a little extra beer if it seems over-thick. Season the fish and dust lightly with flour this enables the batter to stick to the fish. Increase the heat of the fryer to 180C/350F. Lift out of the pan and leave to cool slightly on greaseproof paper. Check they're cooked by piercing with a small, sharp knife. Put the potatoes into the fryer and allow them to fry gently for about 8-10 minutes, until they are soft but still pale. Wash well in cold water, drain and pat dry with a clean tea towel. Preheat the oven to 150C/300F/Gas 2 and preheat the dripping or oil to 120C/250F.įor the chips, peel the potatoes and cut into whatever size you prefer. Unless you are in a purely combat megadungeon, you should also give some thought to your non-combat skills which the rogue can very much shine in. For one extra attack clashes with booming blade, furthermore while pali 4 and 5 are nice, you are missing out on rogue 6 and 7, which looses you a d6 of sneak, expertise and evasion, along with being 1 level away from an ASI. While extra attack is very tasty, as is the level 4 feat, you need to also think about what you are giving up, particularly if you have an idea of what the level cap might be. The spells are mostly a means to ensure I'm getting Sneak Attack, not dying, and Smiting consistently. I'm basically OK with my spells themselves not being that strong, since I'll be doing mostly hitting with my rapiers, not casting spells. Assassin would hit harder I think but I'd have fewer Smites. I wanted something that hits really hard, even if it isn't totally optimized. Then Arcane Trickster made the most sense for a Rogue archetype, I figured, because I get more spell slots for Smiting, plus Booming Blade to work with Cunning Action, and Shield since I'll be on the front lines. Vengeance Paladin I thought tied well into Sneak Attack with Vow of Enmity, and I like Hunter's Mark in there too. I would have only gone two levels of Paladin for the Smites, but three gets an Oath, four gets a feat, and five gets an extra attack, so it's hard to stop. It looks like you are going for a rogue main with paladin flavour build. Any other feat ideas or should I just pump up Dex and Con? Does that seem like my best option or is there anything else I should consider? That also frees up an ASI. Then I figured I'd take Dueling for my Fighting style instead of Defense. I'm reconsidering Dual Wielder a bit my Con isn't that good so I was thinking of switching to shield-and-rapier. Using Point Buy I have 13Str/16Dex/12Con/13Int/10Wis/13Cha (before ASIs but after racial improvements).Īny other suggestions? Has anyone played something like this before? Suggestions for Paladin/Rogue builds are hard to find.Įdit: Thanks everyone. I know it's a rather MAD build I picked Half-Elf to give me enough Cha to multiclass. Hunter's Mark from Vengeance seems useful. For Paladin Oath I was going to go Vengeance (the flavor works for this character), unless there's a much better option I'm missing. I was going to take Dual Wielder and use two rapiers. The extra attack is nice though to guarantee Sneak Attack hits. The other option would be to go 2 or 3 in Paladin, which would let me start with 2nd level spells. However, I still only get 1st level Wizard spells. I was thinking Paladin 5/Rogue 5, since that gets me extra attack and Uncanny Dodge at the start. Since I'm starting at level 10, I have to decide how many levels of each I want to start with. So the idea is a Paladin/Arcane Trickster multiclass I get Sneak Attack and can use my Arcane Trickster spells slots to Smite. I was thinking up interesting ideas and I was trying to come up with a character that basically hits with a weapon attack as hard as possible. I'm starting a new campaign where we're starting characters at level 10. Coaches and hitting partners would come and go, but he never let them get too close. Mary recently told the New York Times, “From age 10 to 18, my life was basically hell on earth.” As soon as Jim saw the spark of her talent, he took full control of her development. He was far from the first– Andrea Jaeger could tell you stories about her father Roland–but he brought the type to its apotheosis. Jim was “the original tennis dad from hell,” according to a 2000 profile in the Guardian. What the USTA couldn’t do was deal with Jim Pierce. Coaches such as Ron Woods and Stan Smith were wowed by what she had accomplished by her early teens, and they wanted to help her improve her match-play skills. In the late 1980s, USTA scouts recognized the raw talent that would take Mary to the top of the game, even as they threw unprecedented financial and organizational support behind Capriati. Even though she spoke French like a Floridian, she helped her mother’s country to Fed Cup titles in 19, defeating the Americans in the final of the latter campaign.īut this was no failure of talent evaluation. The French flag showed next to her name as she reached six major finals and ascended to third place in the WTA rankings. The USTA had plenty of chances to regret letting Pierce out of their grasp. In time, she would win over the French gallery for good. Even after a decade on tour, she had plenty of room to develop, physically, tactically, and mentally. The Parisian crowds booed as often as they cheered. While she became a grand slam champion in Australia the following year, she won only ten matches in her next five appearances at Roland Garros. Mary won over the French crowd, but only temporarily. Arantxa Sánchez Vicario had the patience to withstand Pierce’s barrage, and she held off the challenge, 6-4, 6-4. The pressure finally caught up with the 19-year-old before the final. After the match, Steffi spoke for plenty of frustrated women on tour: “What tactic can you have when she puts away every point?” She won 6-2, 6-2, handing Graf her worst defeat at a major in three years. Pierce simply blasted the German off the court. She was even better against top seed Steffi Graf in the semi-final. She double-bageled Lori McNeil and dropped a 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Amanda Coetzer. She bulldozed the French Open field, dropping only six games in five matches. There was nothing in her record–except that tantalizing potential–to suggest it was coming. The breakthrough finally came in front of the “home” fans in 1994. One fellow player said of her baseline weapons, “When Mary Pierce hits the ball, it stays hit.” At five-feet-eleven-inches, she was one of the “big babes” who defined the era for commentator Mary Carillo. Her groundstrokes were as powerful as any on tour. No one doubted that Mary had the tools to go further. Capriati stopped her at the same stage the following year as well. In 1992, she reached her first second week in Paris, falling to an even younger rival, Jennifer Capriati. Her first two Roland Garros campaigns ended early at the hands of veteran stars Mary Joe Fernández and Gabriela Sabatini. She was only 15 years old, yet she already had more than a year of pro experience. Pierce entered the French Open for the first time as a wild card in 1990. The French Federation landed her allegiance instead, and she spent her career representing the tricolore. Born in Canada to a French mother and an American father and raised in Florida, she could just as easily have ended up playing for the USA. She both was and was not a hometown hero. Mary Pierce had a word to describe the fans at Roland Garros. Plays: Right-handed (two-handed backhand) In 2022, I’m counting down the 128 best players of the last century. My less educated, speculative guess is that you had to re-add it because you realised it was used somewhere and the program wasn't happy without it ) Once the screen has changed, you need to write the Remote Display Number tag back to zero in the PLC, so that it releases control of the display back to the operator My educated guess would be that the status_screen tag is defined in your global connections as the "Replace Display Number". If you are doing this, be careful - while the PLC is commanding the HMI to go to a certain screen, the operator cannot choose a different screen. The Remote Display Number does the opposite - if your PLC writes a "5" into this tag, the HMI will show the display with ID 5. If the the operator switches from screen 1 to screen 2, the HMI will change the tag in the PLC from 1 to 2. To take an educated guess at what it's there for, in your global connections you have two tags that you can assign that work as follows (copy and paste my post from another forum): The "Replace Display Number" is the ID number of the current "Replace" type display that the HMI is showing. All I can tell objectively from that screen is that it's an analog tag which reads from or writes to N107:25 in whichever PLC is defined by the "dcm2" shortcut. What makes Parallels special is the passthrough capabilities. My Mac is a low-end M1 model with just 8 GB of RAM, but I’d go for a 16 GB version if I were buying now and would give more RAM to Windows (the Automatic setting on my system is up to 4 CPUs, 3 GB of RAM, and 1.5 GB for graphics). You can customize the Windows 11 install, of course, both from within Windows and from Parallels, and the latter option provides many software and hardware configuration choices. But until we can download a Windows 11 on Arm ISO directly from Microsoft-which is still not possible-we have to deal with the tools Parallels gives us. I assume this is possible: the Parallels Installation Assistant presents two choices, “Get Windows 11 from Microsoft” and “Install Windows or another OS from a DVD or image file,” and there are links for various Linuxes as well. I realize this isn’t a big need, but I suspect some developers might also want to customize how Windows is installed. I prefer to custom-install Windows to my preferences because what I’m concerned about is using Windows, not using a few Windows apps under macOS. It’s pretty clear that what Parallels doing here is what most users will want, a streamlined experience that lets them get into Windows as quickly as possible so they can install that one app, or a handful of apps, they need and then move on with their lives.įor me, however, the Parallels process is not ideal. While this was happening, I had time to reflect on what I had just done. I also visited the Microsoft Store and updated all the apps. To do so, you open the Windows 11 Settings app, navigate to System > Activation, and buy or enter a product key.Ī Windows 11 Pro product key (which is required) is $199, so I used a key I already had, and it worked fine.įrom there, I visited Windows Update and installed any pending updates. Instead, Setup went right into that series of screens that begins with “Hi” and opened the desktop and the Installation Assistant told me it was done.Īfter signing into my Parallels account and activating my Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition, I was presented with the Windows 11 EULA.īut I wasn’t done: the next step was to activate Windows 11. But this time it worked, blowing right past the screen where it had hung before: the white intro screen to the Out of Box Experience (OOBE) appeared, but not the OOBE. Anyway, it was quick, and Windows Setup began again as before. Which required me to download Windows 11 again for some reason. So I stopped the install and restarted the process. But installing Windows 11 took a bit longer: it started normally but hung on a “Just a moment…” screen for a long time. And then I was prompted to install Windows 11.Ĭuriously, that also took just a few minutes. That took just a few minutes and didn’t require any reboots. So I factory reset the Mac, brought it back up new, updated it to the latest macOS version, and then installed Parallels Desktop 18 straightaway. I had already installed Parallels Desktop 18 late last summer, but I wanted to start fresh. But with that complete-the house is sold and we’ll move out in late March-I ran over to the storage unit, grabbed the Mac, and took a look. There was just one problem: my wife and I are in the process of moving and my MacBook Pro was hidden away in a storage unit while we showed the house to potential buyers. Naturally, I wanted to test how this works and experience Parallels’ simple new onboarding process. But what is new is that Microsoft now officially supports this configuration: previously, Mac users who needed to run a Windows app locally had to make do with a Windows Insider Preview version of Windows 11 on Arm that was not supported by Microsoft and had to be laboriously kept up-to-date as new builds were released. This information isn’t new, and it’s been true ever since Parallels released an Apple Silicon-compatible version of its virtualization platform, despite Qualcomm’s steady progress on the in-house chipsets used in newer PCs like the ThinkPad X13s. But until that happens, there’s only one truly great way to run Windows 11 on Arm. Granted, that could change: Qualcomm should announce its first Nuvia-based Arm chipsets for chipsets later this year, and the first PCs based on these chipsets should arrive in early 2024. But with Windows 11 on Arm, it might not be a lie: Windows 11 on Arm seems to run better in a Parallels Desktop 18-based virtualized environment than it does on native Arm PC hardware. For years, Mac enthusiasts have spread the lie that the best way to run Windows was on a Mac. After tagging, you will see all the tags in the tag section. Step 3.
